A respected medical practitioner and sleep science researcher, Dr. Jim Murtagh currently serves as the Medical Director of SleepCare Diagnostics’ Eastgate laboratory in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Jim Murtagh oversees the lab’s clinical operations in addition to treating patients. Over the course of his extensive career, Dr. Murtagh has authored numerous articles and papers pertaining to not only sleep research and science, but also ethics and general medicine. An alumnus of the University of Michigan, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree and Doctor of Medicine, Dr. Jim Murtagh has filled positions at the National Institutes of Health, Parkland Memorial Hospital, Emory University, and Grady Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Jim Murtagh has been named the recipient of more than $2 million in research grants. Over the course of his career, he obtained patents for two methods of detecting DNA and has contributed extensively to public knowledge regarding sleep disorders. Dr. Jim Murtagh wrote two bills aimed at demonstrating the correlation between sleep deprivation and a higher rate of motor vehicle accidents to the Georgia State Senate.
In addition to his work, Dr. Jim Murtagh is involved in various charitable efforts, including those of Flying Doctors of America and Friends of Public Hospitals. Dr. Murtagh enjoys reading, counting the works of George Orwell, William Shakespeare, and John Grisham among his favorites.
