Over the course of his career, he obtained patents for two methods of detecting DNA and has contributed extensively to public knowledge regarding sleep disorders. Dr. Jim Murtagh wrote two bills aimed at demonstrating the correlation between sleep deprivation and a higher rate of motor vehicle accidents to the Georgia State Senate.
